Glossary of terms

microgram

1 microgram (µg) is equal to 1/1,000,000 grams (1 × 10-6) or 1/1,000 milligrams.

micromole

1 microgram (µg) is equal to 1/1,000,000 grams (1 × 10-6) or 1/1,000 milligrams.

milligram

1 milligram (mg) is equal to 1/1,000 grams.

millilitre

1 millilitre (ml) is equal to 1/1,000 litres.

millimole

1 millimole is equal to 1/1,000 moles.

molality

Molality denotes the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.

molar

A solution in which each litre contains 1 mole of the dissolved substance.

molarity

Molarity of a solution (formed from the addition of solute to a solvent) is the amount of solute in moles divided by the volume of solution in litres.

mole

A sample of an element (or molecule) with a mass in grams equal to its atomic mass (or Relative molecular mass).

nanomole

1 nanomole is equal to 1/1,000,000,000 (1 × 10-9) moles.

relative molecular mass

The sum of the relative atomic masses of the constituent atoms of a molecule.
